Two strings running at the moment. One might be 280mm rear discs using the c**p calipers, the other is more exotic and just about doable using the Golf calipers. I might go for the first easy option, while I link up with another guy who has run out of cash on a longer term identical project. Fiddling about with a cut and welded disc this weekend has given me more confidence in 2 days that 3+ months of waiting that it is possible. Looking at disc temperatures with my Maplin's sale infra red thermometer has shown me that the rear discs are working hard making heat, but no stopping torque, while the fronts run cool - a real mis match . Another use for the thermometer has been reading individual exhaust down pipe temperatures on the SJ, useful for carb mixture adjustments ;D

Plan B kicking in 280mm kit on the way using OEM calipers from e-bay. Once this is on and MoT out of the way, I'll press on with replacing the calipers with the Golf ones. Fortunately the MG-R800 and Golf Mk4 pads are the same wipe profile, so if I succeed the discs/pads will look the same (apart from very sexy alloy calipers ;D)

Been busy the last couple of days, but the disc kit has come and I've been having a look tonight. Taken a few pics, and it will take the Golf calipers, but with a new bracket. Not sure how to measure up and get made, but it all looks do-able. Didn't realise the TF rear hub casting has machined surfaces both sides of the carrier fixing bolts, so a stepped bracket is viable.
Plan at the moment is to fit them on Friday am before I go to a funeral in Banbury, and run around with the OEM calipers while I figure out how/where to get 2 brackets made. Fortunately the pad wipe area is almost identical with the OEM set up.

Got back early today, so I managed to pressure wash off the SJ and get it in the dry again before fitting one side of the kit to the TF. I'm in love with Sabrina I don't know if Sabrina has lovingly filed my kit from a lump of steel, but it was exquisite in every way. The finish was superb, the fastenings were of top quality, the spacer ring was exactly right, and the fit was spot on Pics to follow later when I've cleaned up and had a hot bath

the golf calipers are looking very do-able mounted off the back of the hub then. How far would you have to move the disc out to mount then directly on the front of the hub Jerry ?, they look about 5mm-ish ??

Good point - very close to getting there I couldn't mount off the front of the hub without going to other discs with a different offset. That would make about 5+5(for bracket) mm more offset than these discs The Golf calipers were only approx in position as they would be. I want to use these Focus discs (readily available) with them. I'm trying to work out how to make/measure a bracket to fit Obviously the caliper carrier needs packing centrally around the disc with some shims for measuring. I'm thinking of making a template in Milliput that can be drilled etc so I can measure the dimensions. I'll run like this while I do some skid tests and temperature readings, and then think about the Golf calipers. Don't forget the handbrake needs major work (Like heat shielding from the exhaust) before starting, so I'll evaluate this kit first. One step at a time
