I've been looking at resources like Mike Satur's site again; I really shouldn't but I keep thinking that even if I can't fit some items myself, it might be worth having things like a new exhaust, larger throttle body (which was recommended and doesn't look horribly hard..?) as well as a few minor cosmetic things shipped. Are garages usually happy to replace parts you provide yourself or is there some kind of unwritten thingy that they rather not? Off course there is also the "if it ain't broken don't fix it" rule which seems to go hand in hand with Murphy's Law in a peculiar way. This time of year would be most convenient for getting things done, ie sending the car to garage with another list of check-this fit-that's.

If you have a garage or dry space thing you list like the throttle body are a very easy fit it will only take half an hour and you will feel great knowing you saved a small fortune in garage bills. As for the exhaust the same goes just buy some new nuts & bolts I would recommend stainless steel. Most jobs are a lot easier than you think and you will get a real sense of satisfaction from it as well as saving money.

Thanks, Oz, reassuring to know some things can be done at home. I lack a garage/dry space unfortunately, but I might be able to work around that.

Mike Satur is the cause of many an empty wallet! I've taken stainless exhausts to my local garage and they fitted with no problems at all, they just charged me their hourly rate. If you do decide to have a go yourself, you'll need *lots* of release oil on the old bolts, and quite possibly an angle grinder to cut them off when the oil doesn't penetrate enough. I've not changed throttle bodies so can't help with that sorry.

Cheers, Jan. I am making up a short list of things I want doing at nearest MG garage again (I think the screen washer pump has died, had new impeller last year *sigh) so will inquire if they'd be keen there while they take a look at the fiddly things for me.

Anyone had experience ordering or getting parts from Rimmer Bros?

Hi Mod
I've used Rimmers several times - always arrived promptly and as ordered.. biggest issue with Rimmers is they have a minimum postage cost and if you only want a low cost item the postage seems unfairly high.
Some people say their prices are high, but I've found some are higher some lower - just shop around. Brown & Gammons and the MGOC do same things if you want new stock. Rimmers and MGOC also do a pretty good online catalogue with original Rover part numbers - you can look up the part then search elsewhere for the part by Rover part number - has come in handy many times.

I am in the process of ordering some items from Mike Satur, a new Daytona exhaust, heat-shield trim, hanger brackets and fixings. Also a 52mm alloy throttle body. Been dragging my feet on those for a while now, but figured while the funds were there get them now and work around getting them all bolted on in good time. Took a couple snaps of the Cat-Exhaust connection for them to reference, looks really gnarly down there, not sure those bolts are going to come free without some persuasion but what's new . Next step will be finding somewhere or someone to do the job! Edit, apparently also need a link pipe, so chalk that up too

If your anywhere near Bridgend you are more than welcome to use my Garage/ramps and with a mutual date I can help/show you how to fit all the bits you have bought. I don't see the need to pay garage prices to fit what are generally one for one swaps. Just PM me if you need any help.

That's a very kind and generous offer! I may very well take you up on it. I would gladly make a trip special for that at a time which was convenient. I can easily get all the new stuff in the F too. Only time frame consideration is I would like it done before last couple of weeks in May, but hopefully we can arrange something between then and now. All the new items have arrived today from Mike Satur, I have not yet opened the shipping case. I should take a look at the shiny work Thanks again!

Well with MUCH help, and patience, and effort by Mr. Stavros My MGF now has a new Daytona back-box with round tail pipes. Also we switched out the stock throttle body for the larger metal one and changed some leads and an air filter too. I may have to do a little after work cutting of plastic as the new tail pipes are very close to the top of the recess in rear bumper. No way to adjust both sides lower, the pipes just go there. So I might remove the tail pipes and check on how much plastic got a bit cooked, and then cut that away to make a neat edge. Again super awesome thanks to Mr. S!

There is a way of adjusting the vertical height of the tail pipes to hopefully be central - but it needs a little checking of the rubber exhaust hanger, and my Daytona had an adjustment as well on a bracket to ensure both tail pipes were central. Probably best to lie underneath and push/pull the tail pipes and see what movement is available and where it can be taken advantage of. Mine was wonky at first, but got it dead right in the end - many years ago now.

The exhaust is very sturdy, with very little lateral or vertical give, which is no bad thing. Driver side has full adjustment hanger, but passenger side is a fixed bar. Quite happy with it as there are no buzzes rattles or other noises other than the lovely Daytona burbble-brarrr As also recommended to me I have acquired a grease pump gun to pump fresh into the front suspension arm link, as the F was making some creaky groans up front at low speed braking/pulling away. This has eliminated all but the occasional slight knock as brakes are applied or released. I found this job to be fairly easy once I removed the front wheels in turn, connecting the pump nozzle with flexi-hose to the nipple on upper arm/sub-frame joint. No other nipples I could see in the area to attach to, so worked a little fresh grease into mobile joint edges by finger too. Been running the car about at sedate speed around town then gave the wheel nuts a final nip up tight. Reckon that job is a good one. (jinx)
