SO in the last couple of months, my TF has had the thermostat and housing replaced, and the freelander has had a new brake pipes, new radiator and later a new head gasket. I've still got issues with the freelander so Jon & Claire are coming back for a third (and hopefully) final visit soon. It's certainly trying everyone's patience at the moment. If only I didn't like the driving position of it so much (I struggle with glare from on-coming traffic in the MG) - I would be looking to get rid of it. It's one of those situations though where I've invested a lot into repairs recently so it's not really financially viable to sell just at the moment. So while being fed up with cars, I've been out and about with my camera a bit more.. This was from the fireworks at Caerphilly Castle last night -

Wow.. nice photo Jan, worth waiting for in the cold.
We're also waiting for Jon's next trip so that he can attend to a slight coolant weep around No1 exhaust port. If you are in touch with Jon about him visiting please remind him of my requirement too. Been weeping a while by the look of it - probably explaining intermittent coolant usage over the last year. The Elan Valley run didn't use any ! Weird things these cars!!
Been busy this weekend, removed surface rust from the front wishbones, treated with Rustbuster FE123, and painted. Subframe looks OK with some surface rust spots to tidy up in coming months. Need to remove the front anti roll bar and clean up as paint pealing off allowing surface rust. Nothing serious. Did an oil change the other week which was when I noticed the coolant weep from underneath.

Hi Phil. 99% head gasket leakage - classic position as exhaust manifold movement leverage on the head can relieve the clamping pressure on the polymer bead on the head gasket. Hopefully nothing fatal, just a check to see if all is ok, new more modern gasket etc and all should be well. Developed back in the late 80's, the K series was more F1 tech than Metro motive power! It took a while for MG-R to grasp the nettle, it now seems the current incarnation of the K is almost bullet proof. Hope to see you all before Christmas?

Nice to hear from you Jerry. Hope you are well
Not too worried by the coolant weep to be honest, as I reckon its been around all year - we didn't take her on your Hellfire run because she left a very little puddle as we got her out of the garage and there's been nothing lost like that since, just the odd egg cup full. Did 200 miles on the Elan Valley run, giving it a good thrashing and no loss.
Be good to see you soon - are doing the Xmas dinner in Usk in a few weeks?
Phil
