Hi, another newbie, found this place over on the MGR forum, have been a member over there since 2009. Owned a ZS and a ZT before finally getting my TF in 2011. After spending a packet on her for the MOT I have decided that she needs a little tlc so I'm slowly doing a few cosmetic jobs.

Hi Tommy and welcome Sounds like you've definitely got the MG bug if you're on your 3rd! Where abouts are you from? What did she need doing for the mot? Feel free to post some pictures to share, it's always nice to see what everyone else is driving

I'm in Llandovery, had to have new shocks, and brakes all round for the MOT, as well as a new tyre. Nothing too horrendous but it all adds up. Have ordered a new hood for her, so will be fitting that over the bank holiday hopefully, so hoping it's ready for Sunday so I will be able to join in the run. Here are a couple of old pictures:

Looks lovely, what colour hood are you fitting?
I know you from mg-rover. Org as well don't I - only just realised that lol :-)

Yeah have been on there a while, never managed to get to any runs or meets before though. Fitting a black hood with a glass window.

I thought your forum name sounded familiar If the new hood is on a frame already, then it's a doddle to swap - it's only held on with 4 bolts. If it's fitting to a new frame, I've not done that before so can't help much with that.. other to say it's only 4 bolts to get it all back on the car lol.

I'm taking the plunge and removing my hood from the frame, and putting the new one on. Though I'm tempted to get a frame off eBay and give myself a bit of breathing room, that way if I do run into problems I'm not going to be stuck without a hood.

Spare frame wouldn't be a bad idea if you can pick one up easy enough, I much prefer having spare stuff to work on where possible, mostly because I don't trust myself not to break things beyond repair!

The thing I'm most worried about is running out of time and the car being exposed for the night. All the frames I've seen online have either been too pricey, or really manky, so may just have to invest in a car cover for now.

There's a few folks on the facebook group that don't use the forum, I'll ask on there and see if anyone fairly local has an old frame knocking about. It's unlikely, but worth asking

Thanks, there is one I'm keeping an eye on on eBay but it looks like it needs a bit of repair before I even get going on the hood. Plus my frame is in great condition as is. But this is before I have got my ham fists onto it to remove the hood.

No one's come forward with one on FB yet, but it's pretty quiet everywhere at the mo.

Thanks for putting the feelers out. The hood arrived today, and having looked it over I feel a little bit more confident about doing the job. Think I'm going to order a car cover just in case I need a couple of days though.

Cover is probably easier and cheaper to pick up, just need to hope for some good weather - not looking too good for this coming weekend
