Well, had the new Toyos fitted and discovered the tracking was out badly at the back, so had that sorted too.
As for the mysterious whining noise, IT IS STILL BLOOMING THERE!
I am gutted.
I had hoped that was all it was, crappy tyre noise...but no.
Second opinion on wheel bearing, drive train moveables etc lead to nothing. That's two mechanics who said nothing was wrong.
So why does it sound like I have a cessna aeroplane taking off in the boot then?
Is this just transmission whine on this steptronic box?
The faster I go the faster and louder the sound is but doesn't increase in pitch.
It only starts at circa 1800rpm whilst moving and then never goes.
No noise when stationary.
If it was a pump or belt, would it not whine in neutral?
I can get it to whine in neutral by rolling down a hill, So it definately must be something that rotates whilst the wheels are rolling.
Gearbox oil was replaced at 74k only on 77k now.
I am hoping it isn't some serious dying CVT whine.
I wish I could listen to another steptronic to see if it has it too. For all I know it could be normal. (she says hopefully)
So although I have nice new tyres, I am still scared to drive anywhere in case I wreck the transmission.
I will try to check the transmission fluid level later on.
Is that the long,white- topped, dipstick under the non grill on the passenger side of engine bay?
How do I remove that grill covering it?
Any help or advice gratefully received.
I wish I was a mechanic rather than a housewife.
I am off to sulk now and clean that white cr@p off my new tyres.
