When I can hear reflected noise from engine, like driving past a wall, there is a detectable low whine. It kicks in on acceleration at about 2000rpm. When just burbling along under 25 mph it cannot be heard. It is not a high whine. My son says it's more of a groan. No rumbling noises. Not heard coasting in gear or in neutral parked. I wish there was someone local to me who could listen to it as I am unfamiliar with what it should sound like normally. I am worried in case it is serious.

Well, I went to my mates garage yesterday and we jacked it up and checked out the wheel.
Doesn't appear to be a bearing causing sound and he thinks the drive noise is ok but we discovered the tyre was a bit cupped and squared off, which could be making the noise, tyre whine.(bloody loud if it is) I might try to record it later. It is already mismatched on the back with some crappy cheapos, in fact me and Andrew discussed tyres when he popped over the other night. So I guess its a good starting place for diagnosis. Off to try to get some decent tyres and tracking sorted today if I get time. Russel is doing extensive work on Jans car, so won't have time to see mine this time. Might go for a little sunny jaunt on the weekend, not decided where yet though.
