Hi Russell I'm just about to change mine and I have gone for a Pioneer setup for a Mk2 interior F VVC as follows: T-bar TS-A4613I (Approx £45) 200W 3 way. These are 6x4 and fit perfectly, with a shallow mounting depth. Doors- TS-G172CI (Approx £50) 280W Separate 2 way. The main door speakers are 16.5 cm and fit the door mount perfectly but may require re drilling for fixing. My originals speakers were rivet fixed so had to be drilled out as I was reusing the door mounts. I've found that the new speaker grills, however, will need to be drilled or glued onto the door card so I'm leaving the originals in situ. The tweeters are also smaller than those of the originals so I'll be retrofitting these into the original tweeter mounts to save unnecessary damage/work to the door card. DEH-8400BT (£140) head unit is a direct fit providing you have ISO connectors in place but you may need an additional aerial adaptor (£5 from Halfords, much cheaper on eBay) I am using the existing wiring but have to change the spade connectors to suit but appears to be pretty this straightforward. Ive worked out my wiring colours and think I have it sussed. I will be fitting dynamat (£11 a sheet) to the doors. Cheers Andrew

Sorry, I missed seeing this thread before. I've upgraded all of my speakers and added an active sub for a bit more oopmph.
I've got Alpine 6x4's (standard size for this car) in the T bar (if you want to go bigger than this it is possible, but you'd have to drill out the t-bar to make room for them).
In the doors I went for 16.5cm co-ax units along with tweeters all by MTX Thunder.
My sub is an Alpine SWD1600 (I think, I'd have to check the exact model as it's been a few years since I saw it let alone fitted it!!).
For head unit, I again got an Alpine - mine's an iDA-X100 and is brilliant for ipod/iphone control, but has no CD player although you can use USB mem sticks with it. I've also got an Alpine iDA X305 in my other car, it's a slightly newer head unit, but control is pretty much the same for the 2 of them.
