Hi there I just bought a mgf 1.8 and live in Bridgend south Wales, I have read about the service intervals and little problems these cars have, I ha've always had alfas so I am used to being on top of needy cars :-)
My question is, is there any competent mechanics down my way that can do me a cam belt service for me locally?? Or does anyone know of someone who can?
She has 61000 miles on the clock, done 15000 in 4 years and cam belt was done 4 years ago so I know it needs doin asap
Any suggestions are appreciated
Thanks Steve

Is Barry too far?
Barry Motor Services comes on here and has done a fair bit of work for people on here.
His contact details are somewhere on here as well.

Thanks for your replies, ya spoke to mark from BARRY and he seems very reasonable and happy to take my car to him, I have a very trustworthy garage up by me who I trust with all my cars with but this time cause of it being a mgf will take it Barry as he knows what he is doing and his prices are very good so booking it in January, the headgasket was last done in 2008, is it worth me doing that as well as a precaution?
Thanks all Steve

Hi Steve and welcome along Unless your mg is showing any signs of the head gasket having failed (including but not limited to - loosing coolant, coolant and oil mixing shown either as oil in the expansion tank or gunky chocolate milkshake substance on the dipstick), then I wouldn't get it changed as a precaution - save your money for now and get it done if it does go at some point in the future.

^^^What Jan said^^^ If it ain't broke don't fix it. Get the cam belt, tensioner and water pump done, and then enjoy the car

Welcome to SWMGF - glad some of the guys have sorted you out- we are not much use as Ken fixes all of our cars.
Be nice if you could join us at our next pub meet- we are hoping to meet up at the Star in Dinas Powys in January and at that time we will be sorting out a calendar of events to do next year so that we can get the most out of our cars. Keep an eye out on the forum for details.
