Quick question - how do I adjust the warning light switch ? John No quick answer. 99 times out of 100 it is the calipers failing to return properly because the roller bearing is rusting up. Try soaking the spring area on the caliper with WD40 (sorry Pete), and working back and fore with some grips and brute force until the lever can snap back against the stop on the casting with some vigour. If the hand brake lever has a bit of slack in it and pushing it down makes the light go out, then it's more than likely it's the calipers. The cable only really needs adjusting when new and subject to initial stretch by the two nuts under the central cubby box. ps, that's why I'm working (very slowly) on coverting to Golf Mk4 rear calipers. Kit car makers rear caliper of choice, which has the same size piston as the TF one.
