Where can I find this valve ? I think the control cable might need adjusting, as the hot/cold control knob on the dash keeps springing back from the hot position. This might be causing my heater to blow cool at idling (perhaps!).

Take the side, triangular panel off by your left knee , and it should be visible. The valve has a crummy cam action, which can stick/be stiff and displace the cable and outer from it's clips. Can't describe in detail, take the cover off and watch it move, or not. I don't think this why your heater might run cold from time to time

Thanks Jerry, the heater has always acted like this in the 7 years I've owned it, and likewise the engine bay cooling fan, which works overtime in cold weather, and hardly at all in the Summer ! The joys of MG ownership !

Two things wrong there then The heater is very good as it comes out of the factory - you must have a problem. Likewise with the engine bay fan
