It's gone a bit quiet hasn't it , so I'm going to pick your brains.
The recent thread by Dave about the engine compartment extractor fans and the response to it has prompted a thought. Has anyone fitted a modification which they can honestly say, hand on heart, was worth the cost and time involved, and are there any which did not live up to your expectations?
Lets face the market is flooded with after market goodies which promise the earth, but how many measure up and do what it says on the tin? I'm talking here about everyday motoring not the sort of modification like adjustable shocks, uprated springs and so on which you track day boys love to fit
Now I know it's not easy to admit when you've invested your hard earned in something which was a waste of money, but lets find out which are the finds and which are the failures.

Being a bit of a obsessive old, oily oik , I think the car as standard from MG-R is fine - if kept to factory spec. The trouble is mainly that a lot of modern cars are not serviced/regulary/if at all - ever. A lot of today's generation look on cars as "white goods" and are surprised when a wheel falls off By servicing I mean proper looking at all bits, lubing/painting/adjusting etc - not an oil change and filter change which is what most modern cars ever have - sometimes Anything I've done is to improve/prolong the life of components. Cosmetic stuff doesn't do much for me (except the R badge on the back ;D)

Ahw go on ten just a few I spent a few bob on a Stainless 4-2-1 manifold and didn't think it quite did as it says on the tin I had an Andy Capy exp tank low water alarm kit and it fell apart in the tank, the plastic tube holder for float sort of went out of shape and horrible mess so binned that, now have the B&G kit which i wish i bought in the first place. Bought NGK iridium plugs and binned them after a week or so, i don't now what all the fuss was about,NGK Platinum lasers by far better. Bought Grooved and dimpled all round discs and green stuff pads, looks better but no way (well to me anyway) improves the braking than standard discs and pads as they say they do and very nigh same amount of brake dust as well

I noticed a major improvement after fitting and they had settled down, unless my previous brakes were very bad ( although passed the MOT) After fitting the cold air induction coming out of the roundabouts at full speed but a smile on my face. So they do made a small difference I think, and look at all the attention your car gets when parked up. Last week I left mine in a plaza in front of the Opera House went to coffee shop, sat down outside and observed. Some Chinese people took photos of the car, many people stopped and looked in ( Top was down ) Kids pulled their parents back to take time to see it, many people smiled at it ( hope car smiled back ) all because its above a standard car. So smile be happy.

Yep i do have the 304 mm discs and Trophy Calipers, super aren't they, you just got me thinking back now and funny enough when i had my Red F parked in Cardiff Bay a few years back some Chinese actualy sat in mine ha ha, my TF next year will have a few stickers on it i think and sure that will turn heads again as sort of miss all the attention the Red one got eveywhere ha ha pic from Cardiff Bay of my Red F Chinese visitor wanted to sit in F Stickered up and how F was just before sold it, i must have been mad too and sometimes regret it. Both together, the TF160 will have TSW Blade alloys as seen on the F above on when winters gone, they are ready and waiting in the garage ;D
