At the weekend I had a senior moment and realised it was in 2004 when I built my engine from a 1 year old Japanese emmission failure block. This meant a Swift steel balanced crank/piston assy like new. Anyway, trawling the workshop manual, there is no date or schedule for replacing the cam belt. As it runs up to 6.5k quiet often, this is/was a worry Strange isn't it ps, last Friday I got a new belt and tensioner from the local Suzuki garage - soon to be fitted. Fortunately, if the belt goes pop, the valves don't hit the pistons - it just stops

Still not changed the cam belt and tensioner , been a bit short of time recently Still, fitted this week a Stack air/fuel ratio lambda sensor to the exhaust. I had to order a new Janspeed rear section (2 weeks as made to order) earlier this week, so I welded in a bung for the sensor just after the 4 - 2 - 1 on the Janspeed manifold. I've converted it to a HIF44 SU carb years ago, and I've never been happy with the mixture. I've got SU needle comparison sites and a load of needles, and guess what:- I've arrived back at the needle I've been running with for years. Must be all those years of tuning SU carbs by ear I've got it temporarily fixed up on the dash so I can watch the flickering leds dance all over the place ;D Don't forget, it has an ecu, although it's mechanical 1985 Japanese technology at it's best. I'm testing it out on Sunday over the Brecon Beacons at full power on the way to an Epynt rally stage.

Still at it, this time with the rear locking diff . All in pieces looking at the accumulated wear after 180k. New bearings, bits of diff out of my spare car (70k) and now after shims for the planet gears. All that extreme crosscountry stuff and wheel spinning has taken it's toll - nothing broke but whining badly on drive and a load of backlash. It'll be put back in for another 180k and more cross country driving

Unbelievable - just ordered two 1.2mm shims for the diff planet gears, coming tomorrow for less than £5.00. Not bad for a c**p 1985/86 Jap 4x4. The Suzuki parts place in Cardiff groan as I come in, but they like the challenge Their best effort was a new rear bumper in under a week, flown in from Japan

Diff back in the axle today - it's heavy when lying on your back and trying to lift into place solo Starting tomorrow on the drive shafts, mud shields, hubs, brakes back on. Then touch up wheel arches and back on the floor again - hopefully.

Back on the road and unbelieveably quiet - I can hear the exhaust and tyres droning now ;D
Sorted out a rear disc wobble - so no more locking on downhill gravel runs.
Just got to sort out a few paint niggles after Christmas and she'll be good to go.
