The forum seems to have died a death as there have been no posts for ages on any subject. I have always enjoyed attending SWMG events & reading members activities, so what's happened? I don't do Facebook, so if this has taken over from the forum, I am missing out Remember, use it or lose it Hope to get a response!

I was just thinking the same. No one seems really interested at the moment. Perhaps everyone is on holiday. There was a trip out for the group last weekend but it was only on Facebook. I will be attending the pub meet in Sept so we can all put our heads together and hopefully come up with a good autumn meet.

I don't do facebook either so only posting runs on facebook is no good to me.
As it happens I did the Pendine dash but if the swmg run was on the sat I would have done both.
I hope only using Facebook is not the way swmg is going or that'll be the end of swmg runs for me and that would be a real shame.

The general MG scene for runs is dead on all the forums atm. I'm not talking of MGOC or MGCC as I'm not interested in parading around the country with ancient MG's! Hope you can get something sorted at the next pub meeting Stavros

It was good to meet Oz again that Sunday down in Pembrokeshire for the run. I enjoyed it a lot seeing lots of different models as well as a good variety of F's and TF's. It was very well organized and even I managed to learn the Tulip navigation thing on the fly Hope to see more things promoted on here too, seems to be a good crowd when get together so yep! Until then, shall be lurking.

Like most forums once they migrate to face book they tend to die off, I’ve seen it happen on two other forums I was on, personally I prefer forums. Guvs.

Sorry all, having a bit of a nightmare with my access to the forum of late. I do try to put runs in here as well, but unfortunately that doesn't always happen as with the last run which was a fairly short notice thing. It was a repeat of a run we'd done last year.
I realise that not everyone uses Facebook but 99% of South Wales activity tends to be on there these days with the ease of access, image loading and 'conversation' as such. Forums were the only thing back in the day, but it's a fact of life that most forums are increasingly quiet and unused these days (not just mg, but other forums too).

Hi all, apologies but sometimes you have to adjust with the times to progress.
I can understand that some people do not like facebook, however it does get a quicker and more substantial reaction/interaction of members when discussing events and general MG related topics.
We now have over 100 members on Facebook which shows that its a very popular application.
In general I think you will find that its not just SWMG, but a lot of forums have been struggling to maintain interest and they have started their own equivalent facebook groups.
Posting info about events and doing write ups of events in numerous groups and forums can be tedious and repetitive, when there really is no need for repetition.
You have swmg on facebook, swmg forum, MGF register and write ups for Fast forward ALL saying the same thing seems a bit crazy (don't you think)
It's unfortunate that you feel there is nothing going on with the forum, but that's because there the majority of people are communicating on a different platform. Perhaps you could try the facebook method and see how you get on? (its really not that frightening).
Regards
Andy P

I don't even have a smart phone!! Surely it does not take much effort for run organizers/mods to post details on the forum? Still the preferred method of communication for older members of the forum - so ignore them & lose them.

Nobody is ignoring anybody Roger.
Details of events are being posted in the forum as you can see the latest run which john mentioned.
However there is no doubt that general "chat/discussions" are more active on the facebook group.
You do not need a smart phone to create a facebook account Roger, as you can easily create an account and access it via your computer with the same ease you access forums via the computer.

Andy

Like I've said, I don't mind passing on any information from Facebook users onto this forum. I understand Roger's thoughts about facebook, thousands have joined however thousands have left. Maybe we should be grateful to have more than one platform on which to share our interests. How members used to organise runs/events 30 years ago beggars belief!! Lets all play nicely!!!!!

The Forum is what we make it.. no users = no activity = no interest... I don't like Facebook - too many users showing you irrelevant photos and making inane comments - I do not want to see a photo of someone's first pint of the night, or an ice cream, or know what colour bloody underwear they are wearing (or maybe not wearing)..
The big trouble with Facebook is that it is really just a long list of posts with very little segregation .. so if you have a lot of active people, like the unofficial Imp group, today's posts disappear tomorrow beneath a long list of inane cr@p - for a few weeks they had Front End Friday with hundreds of people posting a photo of the front of their car. That filled a lot of space..
Facebook's event section is poor in that it's not highlighted etc, so easily overlooked.
Unfortunately there's no going back, FB is too convenient for quick rubbish posts and adding a photo.
30 years ago - well I reckon people that were interested attended club nights or they missed out. Nowadays we all have digital friends that we wouldn't recognise in the street... ah well, grumpy old man rant over...
Roger - are you doing the Devil's Bridge run.. we're almost certain to do it.
Phil

Phil I get your facebook phobia point,
However you only see rubbish that " your added fiends post" if people gave it a go and just utilised it for joining the south wales mg group.....Didn't add any friends..... then they would not see the rot that frequently pops up.
It is just one of those things that other media frameworks are now more popular .... I mean someone might make one maybe two comments on this or other forums over a week period (if your lucky)
Whereas there does seem to be a lot more people being proactive and communicative via facebook groups.
As for facebook events section being poor. It may not be in your face with a big flashing light attached, but its only a quick click away to see what is going on. Events are also highlighted frequently by myself and members who create them.

Andy

I'm fairly sure I will do the run, as I'm nearly back to normal [for a 78 yo] after my lung cancer op. Will confirm nearer the date.
