Thanks all
New cap arrived today from Rimmer Bro's and with some advice I will try this out. I didn't get to run it the other day for fear of doing more damage than good. Will bleed over weekend, put new coolant in and with my shiny new cap will see how I get on.
Fingers crossed ha ha

Hi Dave Replied to your PM, thanks very much. Here's some pics of the offending issue. Hopefully someone can relate as I'll struggle to get the car to Mark as I can't risk driving it as it is. I'll speak to the other you mentioned and hopefully he can take a look with the car in situ and we can go from there. Many thanks again Jo Just to let you know that my MGF is not being used much lately (SORN IRISH STYLE ) but yesterday I checked the oil and there was mayo all up the full length of the dip stick. I have about 1000 miles done since HGF and a new multi-layer with the uprated bottom oil rail, new water pump, timing belt, tensioner. The garage changed the oil after doin the HG, I left that in for about 800 miles and changed again and now the mayo has appeared. My HGF was caught early and no head skim needed, as soon as I realised HGF I drove to the garage 10mls and left it there to be done. The oil level had'nt even risen due to the failure, so there was very little mayo in it before so where is this comin from. I dread to think that its HGF again, I really don't believe that as she is goin great no coolant loss no rise in oil level. So maybe when they are left with little or no use the mayo appears. Are we dreaming and wishful thinking but we can't ignore the signs!!!!!!!!!!!

Who knows The only sure way is takinging it all apart and checking. Despite everything you had done, were the liner heights correct/in spec? Just replacing everything doesn't mean it's cured, unless it was an old polymer bead gasket that had just got tired and let go. Skimming is a bad idea as well. The alloy used is heat treated and has a hard "skin" which can be machined away to expose the softer alloy underneath. Also, if it got at all hot, the head will loose it's temper and get soft anyway and be scrap. The best advice seems to be, if the liner heights are fine - use the MLS gasket. I didn't use the oil rail. If the liner height is lower than spec, use an original type gasket. If the liner is flush with the block - game over No easy answer I'm afraid

Last month I used her for Dublin 160 miles up 160 miles back and she did'nt miss a beat, don't really believe the gasket is gone again
