Not in my top tips , but whilst under the car today I checked up on my patented clutch release arm lubrication system. Basically wrap anything absorbant aound the clutch release arm spindle where it pokes out of the gearbox casing and then enclose/trap it there with some some split electrical trunking. I gave it a top up of WD40 followed by a good dosing in engine oil. It was still oozing oil before I looked at it, so I guess it has kept the evil stiff clutch action at bay. I think that the arm seizing up gives problems with slave/master cylinders failing as they have to work so hard the seals wear down and then give out. Just MHO. Just ignore the OAT everywhere, that was the electric water pump going in ;D

I read the thread title, and for one moment, one awful moment, I thought it was going to be a tip about (hard)tops ;D ;D ;D Seriously though, an excellent reminder by Jerry that clutch release arms have a tendency to seize. If you can't make the mod, do spray liberally with WD40 every few months - especially in winter

I like this idea Jerry, who did you get with tiny hands/wrists/arms to get in there to fit it ??. Maybe it needs a drip feed

We've got this problem with my wifes MGF, as she never uses it, the arm seizes up in no time, and so this is a great tip that we will be using, thanks TF Nut!

Would this help a squeeky clutch My clutch has been squeeking for a couple of weeks and I've lubricated the springy bit inside on the clutch pedal with lithium grease, but it's still squeeking. I'm sure Grant did mention something to me about how to do it, but I wasn't really taking enough notice at the time as I was too busy testing my suspension and worrying about the 4x4 look Jerry - any chance of a pic a bit further away so as I can at least identify which end of the car to start looking for it...

The squeek on mine's at the front, inside somewhere in the region of the clutch pedal... Only squeeks when clutch pedal is operated which led me to believe that something on the pedal workings might need lubricating Why spray it with WD40 Jerry - there's no water there to disperse? Are you trying to confuse me now? I sprayed mine with white lithium from a spray can, but its still squeeking (sometimes worse than others), but it's quite annoying I could aways just turn the radio up I spose

You could be right... I'll take a pic of the area where I was spraying so you can tell me if I should've sprayer higher or lower ;D

it could be the clutch master cylinder shaft were it passes thru the bulkhead, squeaking on the rubber grommet.

Spraying grease is ok, sometimes. Normally it just hits the first thing it comes to, and doesn't "creep" into tight places like plastic bushes. Probably most of it is wasted just plastered over the wrong thing. I'll bring some WD40 tomorrow if it hasn't gone by then (the squeak that is)

Hi Jan Mine started off this way a few weeks ago and i put WD40 all over it and the squeeking stopped, however now my clutch pedal is stuck to the floor! I dont know if the squeezing is an indicator or anything that somethings up but if you wanna get rid of the noise WD40 is defo the way to go
